there is something haunting about old hindi songs... how ever much i profess to love rnb and hip hop or rock... old hindi songs have a special place on my i pod.. ;) there is a quality popularly known as 'soul' which the numerous remixes nowadays donot( will never!) have. music now a days has been reduced to semi- pornographic videos.. and well its very sad.
originality and talent are all things of the past.. though many have argued that it takes talent to mix the old songs to the new beat. plagiarism is also very rampant in the many hindi music videos. popular but lesser known hip hop songs are taken and blatantly copied to 'create' these videos... at times the videos and clothes themselves are not spared.
the concept of intellectual copyrights in this country is something that needs serious thought and action... especially in lieu of the fact that the original composer/ creator of the music does not get any credit.. or royalties.

Vintage hindi songs are truly a class apart from todays music.rd burman, sd burman,laxmikant pyarelal...or even the people before them created timeless jewels during their times.
kishore,rafi,manna dey, lata asha...all of them are beyond comparison with todays generation of singers.no matter how many remixes they make...nobody will be able to erase the original versions from our minds.WE CAN HAVE A MILLION WANNABES....BUT THERES ONLY ONE ORIGINAL.
secondly...the remixes nowadays do not have much musical talent to showcase....so they try to maximise their impact on listeners with the visual effects...namely semi-naked models prancing about.we also have to understand that the music industry faces cut-throat competetion not only domestically but also from foreign music.(since we/indians are kinda hybrid culture!!...we practically listen to everything...).also with the rapid digitizing of music, fewer ppl actually buy music anymore.
thus the record label has no other choice to make remixes...wich have tried and tested music.....in a new package.but i think this is a passing trend.it has to change someime.
and i think ..that the original writer cant get credits cause in india...artists/filmakers/music directors have been selling the music in toto to the record companies.so it becomes their property.the artisit cannot have claims to it.
p.s: anyways...a random question..whats ur native language....?wondering if u listen to tamil/telugu/or other regional music?

abt me....its a long story!...i am telugu/andhra by origin.born in hyd....spent my childhood in madhya pradesh and punjab.(yep... close to the hindi+punjabi heartland)..before moving back to hyderabad where i did my high- schooling....and now in chennai for college...
maybe will go to US for more studies (ya ya...call it herd mentality...but i wanna go there jus to experience a new culture..)
so that makes me a mixed-fruit jam! dosent it?
