i read an article in 'The Hindu' yesterday about how 'Bollywood' with its unrealistic hype and lack of content has pushed regional cinema t the periphery. the movies that deserve recognition and praise are not even heard of. indian film festivals are a joke and waste fo time and space. not to mention money. celebrities in bollywood seem to have a problem with the title of the hindi film industry being called so. why they have a problem is beyond me. because most of bollywood scripts are "inspired" from hollywood. stunts, and music blatantly plagiarised. when there is such a dearth of originality why would they have a problem? bollywood wants to go global. apparently box office success isnt enough. now they want to appeal to the masses who can think as well. the few films that are original are labelled 'art films' and donot have a market. either in terms of marketing or distribution. but quite surprisingly there is an audience.
bollywood should start thinking out of the box. and realise the star isnt the king, the customer is. and the customer is educatde. so stop feeding us rehashed drivel. then maybe they could take offense to the term bollywood.

Lol hear, hear!! Bollywood can go roast itself.. I'm surprised nothing is done about the extent of plagiarism that these people get away with-- and Kaavya Viswanathan was humiliated for weeks because of her mistake.. whatever!! And about the plotlines-- what plotlines?? Hero-- city/village. Heroine-- city/village (opposite of the hero) and villain- rejected by heroine/ex-best friend of hero/once-favorite of father figure in movie... my god, really..
15 park avenue was a nice movie. But no hype. No publicity. Trash like Kyon Pyaar Ho Gaya Na, gets all the rave. Dhoom2-- please??? Anyhoo, it's always the same cast-- always the same faces playing the same roles. Variety, people. You don't see Bollywood nymphs (note sarcasm) going and putting on weight for their roles/mutilating themselves/giving up their perfect looks. There's more to an actress than her bellybutton gyrating through midriff baring tops... but try telling them that.
lol.. can see the love. like said its not abt the movie.. its about the actors image u see...
Different people see movies for different reasons. Some see it with a critical eye. So they like well made and intelligent movies.
Some, like me, see it for sheer entertainment. The lesser the clothes the more the fun. The more you think, the less the fun. So I am ok with mibos, bimbos and no story line! And I think a large section of the society is like me.
We dont want to turn up at a cinema and sit and think. We would rather do that in our work.
So we actually prefer Bad Boys (or Die Hard)to Forrest Gump (or American Beauty or Pulp Fiction)!
if u read the post u would have noticed tht i didnt talk about meaningful cinema or anything along those lines.. im talking of bollywood. i hve no issues with bad boys. or die hard. love them myself. but i cant deal with it when its remade with some lame ass hindi actor and they try to market it as something highly original.

See Kaante, Chocolate were not original. But they were highly entertaining. Infact, I like Chocolate more than the original, Usual Suspects.
And in Tam there was a movie called Whistle that was a rehash of Urban legend. Also fun!
See the argument extends. As long as the movie entertains let it be a copy, or even, a dub. We simply dont care!
i guess we are going to have to agree to disagree on this.. though i get ur point of each to his/her own brand of 'entertainment'.. btw, kaante ok.. but choclate??!! sighhh
I thought it was slickly made. That song "Halka Halka" is awesome. Tanushree shows her legs and more. I actually saw Urban Legend after seeing Chocolate. I like both.
Hmm I guess in the end its the money they make that counts. Doesn't really matter if the movie is a crappy remake, there are ppl who still watch it and love it.
